Exceptional piano teaching, rooted in 40 years of patience and care
Lessons for children and adults in Atherton, Manchester, and across Wigan. Classical training that builds proper technique from day one – taught with individual attention and genuine kindness
Welcome
A teacher who measures success in years, not grades
I am a classically trained piano teacher with over 40 years of experience. My teaching builds proper technique from the very first lesson, develops confidence alongside musical ability, and creates relationships that last years. Whether you are five years old or seventy five, a complete beginner or working towards advanced grades, you are welcome here.
A distinctive ritual
Every lesson begins with quiet
Before we touch the piano, we take a few moments. Phones away, the week set aside, just time to arrive properly and be ready to learn. It sounds simple. But in over 40 years of teaching, I have found it makes an extraordinary difference to the quality of every lesson that follows.
The difference that matters
Why this teaching works
Why this teaching works
Classical training means understanding the physical mechanics of playing: how hand position, posture, and finger weight produce a beautiful sound rather than just notes. I teach these from the very first lesson, and they cannot be properly assessed or corrected online. This rigour is what separates serious teaching from casual instruction.
Why in-person teaching matters
Child Development
More than piano - building confidence and communication

Family Loyalty
“We moved house and it takes almost an hour to drive to her, but we stayed with her as there is no way we would find another piano tutor as good.”

Adult Returner, age 75
“After not playing for over 55 years I could not envisage playing properly again. She is gradually bringing a lot back to me. She is quite inspirational.”

Parent of Young Student
“My son has learnt more in 4 weeks with Kathleen than he had in almost 2 years doing lessons at school. We wished we had found Kathleen sooner.”

Free Taster Session
It’s difficult to know if piano lessons will work until you’ve experienced one. That’s why I offer every new student a free taster lesson with no obligation. Come and meet me, sit at the piano, and see what a lesson actually feels like. If it’s right for you, wonderful. If not, no pressure at all.
